We've found Barcelona to be one of our favorite cities for vegan travel, with seemingly endless vegan options. Enjoy our short vegan guide to Barcelona.
These are what we consider the 7 best vegan restaurants in Barcelona
Cat Bar in Gothic
When we visited: Dinner
This place is delightful. It’s a shotgun layout with only a handful of tables. You fill out an order card. They have a yummy selection of beers, and their food is divine. We got the tofu “fish and chips” - amazing. We got a burger - amazing. The service - amazing. There’s a lil pupper that hangs out in there and was sleeping under the piano bench. The place is decorated with cat pictures and drawings (dibujos), so we made one too as a contribution. Pictures are stored in a bird cage until they’re reviewed and distributed as decor. We look forward to trying to find our dibujo of Bad Kitty Kevin, and contributing another on our next visit.
Vegan Junk Food Bar in El Born
When we visited: Lunch, happy hour, and dinner
This place has some nice outdoor seating and a pretty large interior. It’s kind of like the Tardis - it’s bigger on the inside. The decor is lively and the drink and food selection is plentiful but not so expansive that it lacks in quality - everything is really good. I really enjoyed the calamari; Joe loved the nacho. The servers are friendly, and we always go there a couple of times each visit - the hours are accessible and consistent.
Vegan Corner in Gothic Quarter
When we visited: Breakfast
We fell in love the first time. Their specialty is breakfast pastries and morning beverages like tea and coffee. I enjoyed their green tea and black tea with oat milk (avena in Spanish, civada in Catalan); Joe enjoyed capuccinos with avena/civada. The pastries are rare vegan finds from croissant-wiches to french empanadas. The servers are somewhat aloof upon entry. Be patient and they’ll take good care of you. We always go there a couple of times each visit - the hours are accessible and consistent.
Bubita in El Born
When we visited: Happy hour and dinner
Bubido used to be called The Sangria Bar and it was buried in Barceloneta. Now, it’s been recently relocated to El Born, renamed, and still has the same amazing menu. The inside is small with limited seating, but there are tables outside where you can order via QR code. They’re nice, accommodating, and the menu is very strong. We went a couple times, since it one of our favorite places, and we sat both indoors and outdoors. Both are great because I love being surrounded by ancient architecture and to try and decipher it’s history - what was built, when, strategy, how - the walls are so old and repaired and made out of different building materials both new and recycled.
The sangria is awesome offered in goblets or pitchers (just get a pitcher). The sangria is rivaled by the cheese plates - they’re creative and divine. Their tapas or small plates are also very solidly delicious. We got croquettes / hush puppies and some other really yummy stuff. We always go there a couple of times each visit - the hours are accessible and consistent.
La Perra Verde, Taperia Vegana in Gracia
When we visited: Happy hour and dinner
Great vegan tapas bar with a very strong cheese menu. Wonderful service - the server (who was maybe also the owner) was friendly, helpful, and welcoming. The art is a variation of manga focused on a strong, maternal, warrior female and is availabe for sale. We were tempted to buy some postcards - one of our favorite souvenirs.
I can’t praise the menu enough. We really enjoyed croquettes, a variety of cheeses, and mulled wine with vermouth.
Cactus Cat in El Raval
When we visited: Lunch and happy hour
Cute little cafe with wonderful vegan delicacies. The staff was welcoming and friendly. The neighborhood, El Raval, is where the university is located so there are many cool, hip youth in attendance. Cactus Cat, in addition to a fun location and yummy plant-based cuisine, has small goods and wares for sale as well - I liked the postcard collection in particular - and picked up a few goodies and souvenirs for friends and family.
El Vato Loco Napoli-style pizza in El Born
When we visited: Dinner
We showed up on the second day El Vato Loco was open. The owner was making the pizza in a big, beautiful pizza oven. His friend was horfing a brownie, and she insisted we had to get one. She was right, the brownie was ridiculously decadent. The owner and his friends were welcoming and friendly. We ordered our pizza requesting a modification (no onions or garlic due to my unfortunately allergy) which he willingly and happily accommodated. While we waited for our pies, the owner and his chatty friends shared their favorite vegan eateries - several of which are listed here. We took the pizza back to our hotel and gobbled it up for dinner, midnight snack, and breakfast. The pies are Napoli-style so they have poofy, fluffy crust that’s slightly blackened, smaller in size making it ideal for a personal pizza, and a softer center of the pie. El Vato Loco was spot on - exactly what can be expected of Napoli-style - and it was delicious.
