The Eliza Jane: Hotel Review
Booking the Eliza Jane
The Eliza Jane was booked as part of a room block for a corporate event. The going room rate for the nights I was there was $268/night. The Eliza Jane hotel is part of the Hyatt family of hotels.
Location of the Eliza Jane
The Eliza Jane hotel is about a 40 minute drive from the airport. It isvery easy to get to. My Lyft preferred picked me up within 3 minutes and we were off.
The Eliza Jane is located in a spectacular location within the city. It is an easy walk to several great attractions and dining establishments for all dietary accommodations. Bourbon street is a short walk away, while it is a slightly longer walk to the French Quarter and Frenchmans St.
Arrival at the Eliza Jane
My Lyft dropped me off out front, and I was warmly greeted upon entering the hotel. It was clear the Eliza Jane was busy, given the number of people in the lobby, there was no wait at the check-in desk. The agent quickly and kindly checked me into a room on the 5th floor for the week.
Room at the Eliza Jane
My 5th floor room was relatively easily to find. At first the layout can feel strange as the hotel is a merge of 9 ancient warehouses. This allows for the massive interior courtyard and open floor plan on the ground floor. Once off the elevator and on the 5th floor, the decor and hallways have the feel of a high-end boutique hotel. The room was spacious, and while there wasn’t a view, there was a window overlooking a clean parapet which felt bright and private. I felt comfortable leaving my curtains open to get natural light.
The shower has both a shower head and removable hand held shower head made of beautiful brass. The rest of the bathroom still had the feel of a newer hotel. This was nice, as I often find the bathroom to be the first room to show signs of how much use a hotel is getting.
As I am no longer a Hyatt elite, there was no welcome gift for this trip. Bottled water in the room was $4 a for a standard plastic water bottle.
Ambiance at the Eliza Jane
As this was a mid-week, pre-Mardis Gras visit to New Orleans, the clientele seemed like mostly business with only a few. That being said, the Eliza Jane didn’t feel overly corporate. The way it was appointed made it feel like a hip co-working space. I can see this being a fantastic home-base for any tourist vacation.
I can’t praise the interior design, layout, and seating enough. I never felt crowded, and was always able to find a place to sit. There were plush, gorgeous couches and chairs everywhere. Our event space, The Library, was immense and similarly styled. The team loved it.
I prefer the stairs and got lost a few times (there are a lot of old staircases in the building). This really is part of the charm of the Eliza Jane. When I asked the staff which staircase is the best, they pointed me in the correct direction, and I had no problem navigating thereafter. The elevator can be slow, which is fine for me since it’s all the more reason to get my steps in.
Dining at the Eliza Jane
I didn’t get an opportunity to try the on-site restaurant Couvant. They focus on contemporary French cuisine, and didn’t have any obvious vegan choices. I did get to spend some time at Eliza Jane Press Room Bar, and had a wonderful time. The Press Room Bar is in the middle of the open floor plan on the far side of the lobby. The staff was very friendly and made a good Aperol Spritz.
Gym at the Eliza Jane
The Eliza Jane had a very nice fitness center. My favorite gym amenity, it had filtered water. Additionally, there was a Peloton available for use. I got some time in on the elliptical and free weights. During my stay, I was the only person in the gym each time I used it.
Final thoughts on my stay at the Eliza Jane
I fell in love with New Orleans in no small part thanks to the welcoming beauty of the Eliza Jane. I am curious to re-ignite my Hyatt membership and check out other hotels in the Unbound Collection. I will be returning to New Orleans. The city really caught me by surprise. I found New Orleans, like the hotel, is welcoming, full of history, and leaves me wanting to stay longer and discover more. The location of the Eliza Jane is perfect as a home-base when exploring New Orleans.
