Searching Partner Award Space on aircanada.com

A traveler beside an airport gate window with a backpack in San Francisco

Start at aircanada.com and search for Flight Rewards. Aeroplan points can be redeemed on Air Canada and more than 45 partner airlines, including all Star Alliance members and non-alliance partners. Flight Reward bookings can be made free of charge on the Air Canada website.

Flight Rewards support one-way, round-trip, open-jaw or multi-city itineraries. A single Flight Reward reservation permits up to 6 flight segments per direction of travel, with a maximum of 12 segments on the reservation. One stopover is allowed per direction of travel, including on one-way trips, for up to 45 days. Stopovers are not allowed within Canada or the United States and cost additional points.

Codeshare flights are generally not eligible for Flight Rewards, and Flight Rewards cannot be waitlisted. Bookings must be completed at least two hours before departure, except for Air Creebec or Calm Air, which require booking at least 48 hours before departure.

Always confirm the exact itinerary on the official site, since that is where the Flight Reward must be booked. Related guidance appears in our pages on checking award space before a transfer and searching AAdvantage partner award space.

Aeroplan Partner Award Pricing and Rules

Aeroplan Flight Rewards use a distance-based chart that divides the world into four zones: North America, Atlantic, Pacific, and South America. The number of points needed depends on the distance band within those zones and the cabin you book. Most partner airlines follow fixed distance-band pricing, so the cost stays the same for a given band and cabin once the chart is set. Air Canada and a small group of select partners use dynamic pricing instead.

The select partners on the dynamic side of the chart are United Airlines, Emirates, flydubai, Etihad Airways, Canadian North, Calm Air, Bearskin Airlines, and PAL Airlines. All other partners stay on the fixed bands. That split is useful when we search from the United States: fixed partners give a predictable points cost within the zone, while dynamic ones call for a fresh check on aircanada.com for the exact day.

Flight Reward chart changes took effect June 1, 2026. The updates included both increases and decreases on certain partner awards. Those revised rates apply to any ticket booked or reissued on or after that date.

Mixed-cabin Flight Rewards are priced on the highest cabin in each direction of travel. If one segment of an outbound trip is in business class and the rest is economy, the entire direction prices at the business rate. The same rule applies independently to the return. For a closer look at how this works in practice, see our guide to searching mixed-cabin partner awards.

A CAD39 partner booking fee applies per ticket whenever a Flight Reward includes a flight operated by an airline other than Air Canada, Air Canada Express, or Air Canada Rouge. The fee is stated in Canadian dollars and is charged even if only one segment is on a partner. It is separate from the points required by the chart.

Taken together, these rules affect how we plan partner awards. We start with the zone and distance band, then note whether the operating airline is on the fixed or dynamic side. The June 2026 chart changes mean we always confirm the current rates for any new booking. The mixed-cabin rule can raise the points cost more than expected if a single higher-cabin segment is included, and the CAD39 fee adds a fixed cash component on any itinerary that leaves pure Air Canada metal. Checking both the chart and the fee before transferring points keeps the total cost clear.

Booking Aeroplan Partner Awards Online or by Phone

Flight Reward bookings, including those that use partner award space, can be completed free of charge on the Air Canada website. For US travelers this is the straightforward path once availability is confirmed.

Bookings made through the Aeroplan Contact Centre incur a non-refundable CAD30 fee. A booking that cannot be completed online is still charged the Contact Centre fee.

When a Flight Reward includes a flight operated by an airline other than Air Canada, Air Canada Express or Air Canada Rouge, a CAD39 partner booking fee applies per ticket.

US travelers can move points into Aeroplan at a 1:1 ratio from Chase Ultimate Rewards, Capital One miles and Bilt Rewards. Details on transfer timing across programs appear in our points transfer times guide, and Capital One partner specifics are covered on the Capital One transfer partners page.

Aeroplan points expire after 18 months with no account activity. Activity includes earning, redeeming, donating, transferring or converting points, so earning or redeeming even a few points keeps the account active.

We recommend completing the search and the booking on the website whenever possible to avoid the CAD30 fee, then watching the partner fee only when a non-Air Canada-operated flight is part of the itinerary. Keep the account active with regular activity so points do not expire while waiting for the right partner space.

Dynamic pricing applies to Air Canada and select partners such as United Airlines, Emirates, flydubai, Etihad Airways, Canadian North, Calm Air, Bearskin Airlines and PAL Airlines, while most other partners follow fixed distance-band pricing on the chart.

Complete searches and bookings at least two hours before departure, or at least 48 hours before departure for Air Creebec or Calm Air. Keep the account active so points do not expire after 18 months of no activity such as earning, redeeming, donating, transferring or converting points.
