Reading the Comfort rule
For Reserve certificates, Comfort in W or S only opens when L, U, T, X, or V are available in Delta Main. If Main is out of those classes, Comfort isn’t a fallback.

Where It Flies and What Trip Shapes Are Allowed
Origin
Per Delta terms as of September 27, 2026, the certificate is valid for published routings originating within the United States, Puerto Rico, or the U.S. Virgin Islands.
Destinations
The official list: the United States, Puerto Rico, USVI, Mexico, Antigua, Aruba, Bermuda, Bonaire, Curacao, Grand Cayman, Cuba, Jamaica, Bahamas, Turks and Caicos, Dominican Republic, Saint Kitts, St. Maarten, St. Lucia, Costa Rica, Belize, Guatemala, Panama, Honduras, and El Salvador. Routes, frequencies, and destinations are subject to change, and travel to Cuba is subject to compliance with applicable law.
Operating carrier
Qualifying tickets must be operated by Delta, Delta Connection carriers, or Delta Shuttle. All other Delta-designated codeshare flights are excluded, so a flight with a Delta number but another airline’s plane won’t work.
Trip shape
The trip must be round-trip. Stopovers, open jaws, and circle trips are not permitted.
Delta Vacations
Companion Certificates may also be used on an Eligible Flight for the flight portion of a Delta Vacations package.

Taxes, Fees, Booking Channel, and Payment
Taxes and fees
The companion ticket isn’t free of charges. Per Delta terms, as of September 27, 2026, a Companion ticket “requires payment of government-imposed taxes and fees.” The terms add that taxes and fees “depend on the itinerary and are subject to change,” and that they must be paid when the Primary ticket is purchased and the Companion ticket is issued. Booking together
Both passengers must be booked at the same time, in the same class of service, and in the same reservation. Reserve terms also state that both passengers must be booked on the same flights and dates, at the same time.
Where to book
- Regular companion trips: reservations are only at the official Delta booking site, and redemption runs through Delta’s official redeem flow. The terms don’t describe booking a regular companion trip by general Reservations phone.
- Delta Vacations packages: reservations are available through Delta Vacations and the Delta Vacations Customer Engagement Center. Delta’s how-to copy lists the Delta Vacations reservations number, 1-800-800-1504, for package bookings.
How to pay
Per Delta terms, the Primary ticket and Companion ticket must be purchased with the issuing card (Delta SkyMiles Platinum or Platinum Business for a Platinum certificate; Reserve or Reserve Business for a Reserve certificate) and/or eCredits, including flights bought as part of Delta Vacations packages. The certificate and Delta eCredits can be combined in the same transaction, but the eCredit must match the name of the traveler whose ticket is being purchased.
The certificate can’t be combined with another offer or discount, including, but not limited to, web fares, sale fares, and eCoupons.

Fare Rules, Expiration, and Who Must Redeem
Fare rules
Per Delta terms as of September 27, 2026, most fares require an advance purchase of up to 14 days, a 3-night minimum stay, and a 30-day maximum stay. All fare rules, restrictions, advance purchase requirements, and availability are per rule of the Primary ticket fare purchased.
Expiration
Travel must be booked and completed (fully flown) by the date on the front of the certificate. Validity isn’t based on the calendar year. Delta’s summary language says expiration is typically one year from the date the certificate is issued, and its change/cancel copy says Companion Certificates and eCredits are valid for 1 year from the original date of issue, with all travel booked and fully flown by the expiration date.
If you cancel a wholly unused Primary ticket and Companion ticket, the redeemed certificate is automatically reissued and keeps its original expiration date. Cancelling doesn’t buy you more time.
Who redeems, and who flies
The certificate must be redeemed by the Basic Card Member, but the Basic Card Member isn’t required to be one of the two passengers. Primary and Companion tickets aren’t transferable once issued, and the certificate may not be bartered or sold.
