Top Pros Holiday Inn at Helsinki City Centre
Great location since it was easy to get to from the train station from the airport and centrally located for easy walking around town. Genial service with friendly and warm personnel.
Booking
We booked this using IHG points. The cost was 29,000 points for the one night. Given the location of the hotel was exactly what we were looking for, and our large stash of IHG points, this seemed like a good deal. Cash prices for the night would have been ~EUR150.
Location
The Holiday Inn Helsinki City Centre proved to be incredibly accessible from the airport. Our trip to Helsinki was a layover as we journeyed from the US to Spain. We found ourselves with a bit of spare time, needed to fulfill status segment requirements, and were keen on exploring Helsinki. I had never ventured that far towards both the east and the north. From the beginning to the end, the Holiday Inn Helsinki City Centre ensured a cozy and enjoyable stay.
The wayfinding in the airport for the train was well done and easy to maneuver for us non-Finnish speakers with clear, bold imagery and easy to follow instructions for purchasing tickets. 40 minutes later, we were disembarking the train in City Centre which has a main central plaza. The Holiday Inn Helsinki City Centre was readily identifiable as one of the prominent businesses in the square.
Once we checked in, we rallied to explore and found several interesting shops, parks, an outdoor market, and of course, the Baltic Sea! There were at least three Marimekkos within walking distance which is a must see as a cultural and design icon.
Arrival
The desk attendant was kind, attentive, and helpful upon checkin. In fact, every time we walked through the entryway, we were greeted with polite, welcoming smiles from any and all desk attendants.
There was definitely a business event of some kind happening, yet we did not wait to check in. We were promptly assisted. The business guests were efficient and polite contributing to a comfortable atmosphere.
Room
Room Size
The room at the Holiday Inn Helsinki City Centre was amply sized, comfortably accommodating all our luggage and travel essentials. There was enough space to move around freely without feeling cramped, making it a pleasant retreat after bustling city exploration.
View
Waking up to the great view of Helsinki city center was a delightful experience. The city's stunning architecture, juxtaposed with the vibrant urban life, was a sight to behold and added a unique charm to our stay.
Bed Comfort
The bed was the epitome of comfort, firm yet cozy, ensuring a restful night's sleep. The abundance of pillows added an extra layer of comfort, making it difficult to leave the bed each morning.
Bathroom
The bathroom was well-maintained and clean, offering a good amount of space. It was comforting to return to a spotless bathroom after a long day of sightseeing, adding to the overall pleasant experience at the hotel.
Storage
There was no dearth of storage options in the room. The availability of hooks, closets, and cabinets throughout the room made it easy to organize our belongings. We could unpack and repack without any hassle, making it feel like a home away from home.
Amenities
There was a minifridge and snacks. As usual, we emptied the fridge and used it to store our travel food. There was a grocery store nearby, so we added to our cache of snacks and fit our trove of goodies in the minifridge without issue.
General vibe of the hotel
The interior was cozy and colorful. There was ample space and the area was segmented in a nice, natural way allowing for groups of various sizes to share the area. It’s ideal for groups and events.
Conclusion
We would absolutely stay here again. It was a pleasant experience and memorable. The convenience and ease of the stopover was greatly enhanced by this fantastic hotel.
