British Airways Club Europe Barcelona (BCN) to London Heathrow (LHR): Review

British Airways Club Europe Barcelona (BCN) to London Heathrow (LHR): Review

This flight was part of a larger vacation that was also part tier point run. With this trip Erika would be earning Executive Club Gold status and I would be retaining Silver status. This was booked as a cash ticket through American Airlines.

Barcelona Airport

Barcelona airport is very easy to get to. Since we needed to get there early in the morning, we decided to hire a taxi from the hotel, costing around $40. The trip was fast and efficient. British Airways flies out of Terminal 1, and our taxi dropped us off just outside the checkin counters.

We were happy we arrived early. The checkin situation was a complete disaster. While there was a somewhat average line for the economy passengers, there was a similarly long line for business class passengers as well. There was only one agent available for each line. This became a problem when the couple at the front of the line was having some complications. Slowly the line behind us began to grow. It became so long, it began to snake through the terminal. No joke, it took almost an hour to get checked in, and we were probably 10th in line.

Once we were checked in, we headed through the expedited security for business class passengers, and headed to passport control. Unlike our checkin experience, passport control was a breeze, and before we knew it, we were headed to the lounge.

Sala VIP Joan Miro Lounge

We really enjoy this lounge. For many people though, the most complicated part is finding the lounge. The signage isn’t that great, and we passed a few people with confused looks on their faces. You either have to take the elevator down a floor to the lounge, or stumble upon the escalators behind the elevators.

Once inside, the lounge is shiny and modern. It has your usual collection of food and beverages. There is also ample seating. We’ve never seen this lounge crowded, but then, we’re usually on some of the earliest flights.

Flight to London

Today we were on an Airbus A319. As the second people on the plane, we had more than enough room for our luggage in the overhead bins. By the time the plane had been fully boarded, all of the bins were completely full.

This is your standard British Airways Club Europe seat. For business class, it does not have too much leg room, but this is mitigated by the blocked middle seat. We do like the table that British Airways puts in the blocked seat.

Service on the flight was extraordinary. The flight attendants went out of their way to keep our drinks full, and checked multiple times on how we were doing. They were very outgoing, and took the time to chat with many passengers.

For this early lunch, we requested VGML special meals. As has been the case for most of our British Airways VGML meals, it was red curry. This curry was slightly spicier and flavorful than the past couple we have had. It was very nice. It was accompanied by some white rice, a roll, margarine, a small salad, and a delicious pudding for desert.

Overall, this was another quality British Airways Club Europe flight. As many American flyers will point out, it never gets old that there is a full meal service on flight that’s just over 2 hours. Overall, it was a pleasant experience.
