DoubleTree Suites by Hilton Hotel Phoenix: Review
Booking
We booked the DoubleTree as part of our trip to Tenerife. This was the first stop on our trip that is one-part vacation and one-part tier point run. Part of our strategy to earn as many tier points as possible from this trip, it was necessary for us to connect through Phoenix (as opposed to available options through DFW). From our home airport in Palm Springs the only available connections through Phoenix were either 25 minutes or overnight. We chose the overnight option.
At the time of booking, I did not realize that our layover after our flight from Palm Springs coincided with Super Bowl week in Phoenix. Thus, hotels prices were fairly outrageous. Luckily, we were able to find reward availability at the DoubleTree for 35,000 Hilton Honors points versus the going rate of $700+ per night. Likewise, we booked early enough, there was still some availability. When we double checked availability a week out from our trip, almost every hotel in the Phoenix area was sold out.

The airport shuttle was easy to find and identify. Due to all the arriving fans for the Super Bowl, the airport was busy, and we noticed a full bus driving by without stopping. Upon calling the hotel, they let us know since the shuttle was full, it would be back for us in less than 15 minutes. The exchange was informative and pleasant. Sure enough, 10 minutes later the shuttle returned and scooped us up. The driver was courteous and the drive was short, only about 5 minutes.
Arrival at the DoubleTree Suites by Hilton Hotel Phoenix
From the shuttle driver to the front desk to the bar, every staff member we interacted with was welcoming and kind. There was no line, and we were promptly greeted and catered to. The directions to the elevators and ultimately our room were clear and descriptive while being concise.

As a welcome gift we received 2 bottles of water and 2 fresh cookies. Note, everyone gets cookies! We did not indulge because we assumed, and confirmed via the nutrition label on the cookie sleeve, that it’s an omnivorous cookie (made with eggs, milk, butter). We also enjoyed the Hilton Diamond member upgrade to a suite on the 6th of 6 floors located in the corner, farthest from the elevator. Corner rooms far away from ice machines and elevators are my personal preference. Note, Hilton Diamond membership can be easily achieved by having the Hilton Aspire credit card by American Express. It also comes with points when you meet a modest spend threshold.
The suite was massive, replete with king bed, great view, living room, two televisions, pull out bed, kitchen (no utensils) with microwave, big mini fridge, and plenty of storage throughout.
Did I mention the view? From the room and the terrace entry right outside, the design and layout of the hotel amplifies the epic vistas of the Phoenix area. From sunset to sunrise, mountains, and my favorite, cactus, the view is a feast for the eyes.
I love a king bed, which our room provided. There were four pillows - 2 firm, 2 soft. I love this variety of pillow density. The bed had bedside tables with drawers and two outlets each, and of course, a lamp.
The bathroom had plenty of towels, soap, lotion (my favorite), and a single vanity. It had a nice big shower and good lighting. The lights are energy saving so they did turn off after a few minutes. The vanity stayed on which was helpful while showering.
This room had arguably more storage than in our home. There were coat hooks in the bedroom, a massive closet with another one of my favorites, a foldout suitcase holder. It also had the requisite ironing board and dresser. In short, the suite was a livable apartment.
The kitchenette had ample coffee, of course, which Joe enjoyed, and the biggest minifridge I’ve encountered. We could fit our entire snack bag in there!
General vibe of the DoubleTree Suites by Hilton Hotel Phoenix
The hotel lobby has a lot of enviable desert inspired art. The art in the room is also desert inspired, but crossed with the classic “hotel room art” aesthetic. I did really like the piece over the bed, it was simple and evocative to me.
The structure of the hotel has the rooms on the outside with a massive interior courtyard which includes the pool and a well varied cactus garden - something I deeply appreciate. I would have spent more time staring if I had more time.
Dining at the DoubleTree Suites by Hilton Hotel Phoenix
We spent some time in the hotel bar. The service was great and the clientele were seemingly of the business conference variety. Great for ambiance and productivity. Joe enjoyed the gin and tonic, and I the Coors Light. The restaurant serves breakfast from 6-10am and dinner from 5-10pm. If you need snacks or beverages at any other time, the Market Express near the check-in desks has sandwiches, salads, snacks, and coffee for purchase.
Other facilities at the DoubleTree Suites by Hilton Hotel Phoenix
There was a gym although we didn’t use it (quick stay, no gym clothes). It had free weights, weight machines, and cardio machines including a Peloton!
The pool was beautiful! I wanted to use it but didn’t due to a quick stay and no swimsuit. I imagine the pool will get a lot of use this weekend as the Superbowlers come through.
Conclusion
We would definitely stay here again when in need of an airport hotel. For Superbowl week when all rooms were sold out, everyone was so nice, there was plenty of space, and it had a sensation of serenity despite the week’s activity. The room we got was what we hoped for but didn’t expect. We loved the southwest stylings and how supportive the layout was of appreciating the landscape’s natural beauty.
