Nestled in the heart of Barcelona's Gothic quarter (one of Barcelona's most popular neighborhoods), the Hotel Neri provides guests with an experience like no other. Surrounded by centuries-old architecture and history, visitors have access to some of the most beautiful sights and sounds that Barcelona has to offer. The hotel is located near the old Jewish Quarter and Sant Felip Neri Square, giving guests a unique view of the city. It is about a 40 minute taxi ride from the Barcelona airport.

The hotel itself is located in an ancient building said to date back hundreds of years, with a courtyard shared by an elementary school which used to be an orphanage. The pock marked walls left behind in the secluded square of Sant Felip Neri from the fascist bombing during the Spanish Civil War are still visible today, adding to the charm and atmosphere of this historic location.

They are within walking distance of some of Barcelona's most incredible sights and attractions. Museums such as the Picasso Museum and sites like Las Ramblas are not far away. Room

Hotel rooms in this historic building in a great location are glorious. Each space is slightly different - sometimes you get a big tub, sometimes you get a terrace. This visit, we were upgrade to the deluxe. The deluxe had the following:

Dining

There are two restaurants at Hotel Neri Relais & Chateaux. Both of the restaurants offer a great selection of drinks along with Catalan and Mediterranean cuisine.

Breakfast

Our breakfast was offered in the dining room of "a" Restaurant by Chef Alain Guiard. Every time we've gone down for breakfast right after they open, the dining room has been relatively empty. We've never had to wait. Later in the morning the dining room seems to be much busier. There are breakfast options for omnivores, vegetarians, and vegans. There’s a continental breakfast as well as a sufficient menu (8-10 items). Juice, tea, coffee, oat milk - avena in Spanish, Civada in Catalan. We enjoyed black tea wilth oat milk (civada / avena) and cappuccino.

Lunch and Dinner

In the afternoon and evening the "a" restaurant has a beautiful, quaint terrace (low traffic, minimal view, enviable privacy). The terrace tables were generally full during our stay. Inside the "a" Restaurant there is also a beautiful lounge bar and lounge seating. In the afternoon they offer a gourmet tapas menu focused on Catalan and Mediterranean cuisine. Likewise there is a similar menu focused on Mediterranean cuisine for dinner. In the evening, dining room doubles as a lounge. The lounge bar has an excellent selection of wines and cocktails. In the evening the terrace is lit by hanging string lights. These hanging string lights brighten the space against the dark plaza.

Rooftop

When the weather is nice, we suggest you visit Roba Estesa restaurant on the top floor of the hotel. The rooftop bar of Roba Estesa has incredible service. This rooftop bar has the same drinking options as the other restaurant in the hotel along with gourmet tapas.

Cons

It’s expensive.

Location: hard to get to (tempered by the fact it’s worth it to be in the middle of an ancient city), because it's in the medieval section of Barcelona
Cost: without the sweet deals, we likely wouldn’t spring the cash to stay here, so it’s a real treat when we get to stay in one of their deluxe rooms
