Two travel cards, two very different ideas. As of September 28, 2026, the official Wells Fargo Autograph Journey page states a $95 annual fee, and the official Capital One Venture X page states an annual fee of $395.
Journey pays 5X points on hotels, 4X on airlines and 3X on restaurants and other travel, with no Capital One Travel-style portal requirement on its official page. Venture X pays its top rates, 10X and 5X, on bookings made through Capital One Travel, and adds Capital One Lounge and Priority Pass access for primary cardholders.
Below: fees, earning, lounge access, credits and protections, transfers, and which traveler each card fits. This is the Autograph Journey, not the no-fee Autograph.
- $95 Autograph Journey annual fee
- $395 Venture X annual fee
- 5X / 4X Journey hotels / airlines
- 10X / 5X Venture X via Capital One Travel
Card terms and offers here follow the official Wells Fargo and Capital One pages as of September 28, 2026.

Real-World Examples
Example 1: Booking hotels and flights directly
You book with the hotel or the airline itself. Journey’s 5X on hotels and 4X on airlines is written as merchant-category earn, with no Capital One Travel-style portal requirement on its official page.
Takeaway: Journey’s bonus rates follow the merchant category, not a booking portal.
Example 2: Booking hotels and rental cars through Capital One Travel
Venture X pays 10X miles on hotels and rental cars booked through Capital One Travel, and the card’s $300 annual credit is also for bookings through Capital One Travel.
Takeaway: Venture X’s top rates and its travel credit both run through the Capital One Travel portal.
Example 3: A frequent flyer who wants lounge access
Journey’s official page lists no lounge access. Venture X primary cardholders get Capital One Lounge and Landing access and 1,300+ Priority Pass lounges, and Priority Pass requires enrollment.
Takeaway: if lounges matter to you, you’re on the Venture X side of this split.
Example 4: A first airline purchase on Journey
Journey’s credit is a one-time $50 statement credit applied when your card is used for your first airline purchase of at least $50 in the year.
Takeaway: the first qualifying airline purchase of the year is the trigger.
Example 5: Reaching your Venture X first anniversary
Venture X’s page says: “Get 10,000 bonus miles (equal to $100 towards travel) every year, starting on your first anniversary.”
Takeaway: the anniversary miles begin at year one, not at account opening.
Example 6: A trip abroad with either card
Both official pages state no foreign transaction fee: “No Foreign Transaction Fee” on Journey and “No Foreign Transaction Fees” on Venture X.
Takeaway: foreign transaction fees don’t separate these two cards.
Annual Fees: $95 vs $395, and Which Autograph This Is

| Card | Annual fee, per the issuer’s official page |
|---|---|
| Wells Fargo Autograph Journey | “$95 Annual Fee” |
| Capital One Venture X | “$395” |
The Autograph Journey is not the no-fee Autograph card, and the two cards’ earn rates aren’t mixed here. This page doesn’t add up a fee difference or a total value for either card.

Earning: Portal-Optional Journey vs Portal-First Venture X

Bonus travel earn, as each official page words it on September 28, 2026:
| Category | Autograph Journey | Venture X |
|---|---|---|
| Hotels | 5X points with hotels | 10X miles on hotels & rental cars booked through Capital One Travel |
| Flights | 4X points with airlines | 5X miles on flights and vacation rentals booked through Capital One Travel |
| Everything else | 1X points on other purchases | 2X miles on all other purchases, every day |
| How the bonus rates work | Merchant-category earn, with no Capital One Travel-style portal requirement on the official page | The 10X and 5X travel rates are written as Capital One Travel bookings |
Also on each card
- Journey: 3X points on restaurants and other travel. Journey’s terms list the 3X travel merchants as campgrounds, timeshares, cruise lines, travel agencies, and vehicle and auto rentals, plus restaurant categories.
- Venture X: 5 miles per dollar spent on Capital One Entertainment purchases.
The practical split: Journey’s bonus rates follow the merchant category. Venture X’s top rates need Capital One Travel, then drop to 2X everywhere else.
Lounge Access: None Listed for Journey vs Capital One Lounge and Priority Pass

Autograph Journey
As of September 28, 2026, Journey’s official product page doesn’t list airport lounge access or a Priority Pass membership. If you’re searching “Autograph Journey lounge,” that’s the answer.
Venture X
- “Venture X primary cardholders can enjoy access to Capital One Lounge and Landing locations.”
- “Venture X primary cardholders can enjoy access to 1,300+ participating lounges worldwide from Priority Pass.”
- “In order to access Priority Pass lounges, eligible cardholders will need to enroll.”
- “Access is not guaranteed and is subject to space availability.”
Authorized users don't get lounge access automatically: since February 1, 2026, Capital One charges $125 a year per additional cardholder for lounge access. Guests are no longer free either: Capital One Lounge and Landing guests are listed at $45 per adult, and Priority Pass guests at $35. Spending $75,000 on the account in a calendar year unlocks up to 2 free guests at Capital One Lounges and 1 at Capital One Landings per visit, but that benefit does not apply to Priority Pass lounges. Check Capital One's lounge access guide for the current rules.

Credits, Anniversary Miles, and Protections

Journey’s $50 airline credit
Per Wells Fargo: “Each year, you will receive a one-time $50 statement credit applied to your account when your card is used for your first airline purchase of at least $50.” Airline purchases include purchases at retailers whose merchant category code is airline and air carriers, and charter flights and private jet flights are not considered airlines or air carriers.
For the first year, the credit is available at account opening. After that, the 12-month annual airline credit period begins the first day of the month after your annual fee is assessed, then renews every 12 months.
Venture X’s travel credit and anniversary miles
- “Receive a $300 annual credit for hotels, flights, vacation rentals and more through Capital One Travel.”
- “Get 10,000 bonus miles (equal to $100 towards travel) every year, starting on your first anniversary.”
To keep tabs on these, see tracking Venture X benefits.
Protections and fees, as each issuer words them
| Feature | Autograph Journey | Venture X |
|---|---|---|
| Foreign transaction fees | “No Foreign Transaction Fee” | “No Foreign Transaction Fees” |
| Cell phone protection | Up to $1,000 against damage, theft, or unintended separation, subject to a $25 deductible | Up to $800 when the phone bill is paid with the card |
- Journey also lists: Trip Cancellation and Interruption Protection up to $15,000 for lodging, flights, and activities if the trip is canceled for a covered reason; Lost Baggage Reimbursement up to $3,000 in luggage reimbursement per trip; an Auto Rental Collision Damage Waiver that reimburses covered damage or theft when you pay for the rental with an eligible card; and “Points never expire as long as your account is open.”
- Venture X also describes: Premier Collection and Lifestyle Collection hotel benefits for bookings through Capital One Travel, including an experience credit up to $100 USD on qualifying Premier Collection charges.
Transfers: What Each Issuer Actually Says

Autograph Journey
Wells Fargo’s page says: “Transfer your points directly to select travel loyalty programs, in any amount.” Its terms add: “One Wells Fargo Rewards Point equals 1 Participating Transfer Partner mile, point, or credit, unless we state otherwise.” The Journey product page doesn't list the programs, but Wells Fargo's newsroom has announced partners including JetBlue TrueBlue (1:1), Wyndham Rewards (1:2) and Cathay Pacific, and says transfers are open to the Autograph Journey. The current full list sits inside the Wells Fargo Rewards site, so check there before you transfer.
Venture X
Capital One’s page says you can “transfer miles to your choice of 15+ travel loyalty programs.”
Because Journey's card page doesn't list its partners, overlap between the two programs can't be confirmed from the card pages. For Capital One’s side, see our Capital One transfer guide.
Which Card Fits Which Traveler, Plus Welcome Offers Shown on September 28, 2026

Choose Autograph Journey if you book direct
The $95 fee, category earn on hotels, airlines, restaurants and other travel booked outside a Capital One portal, and the $50 first-airline-purchase credit match how you already book.
Choose Venture X if you’ll use the portal and the lounges
You’ll use Capital One Travel for the $300 credit and the 10X and 5X portal rates, want Capital One Lounge and Landing access plus enrolled Priority Pass, and will use the 10,000 anniversary miles.
Need a lounge? You’re on the Venture X side
Journey’s official page lists no airport lounge access or Priority Pass membership.
Welcome offers, as a dated side note
These were shown on the official pages on September 28, 2026, and they’re time-limited.
- Journey: “Earn 60,000 bonus points when you spend $4,000 in purchases in the first 3 months.” The page adds, “Offers may differ from time to time and depend on the marketing channel.”
- Venture X: “Earn 75,000 bonus miles once you spend $4,000 on purchases within the first 3 months from account opening.”

TL;DR – Verdict
Choose Journey when the $95 fee, category earn on hotels, airlines, restaurants and other travel booked outside a Capital One portal, and the $50 first-airline-purchase credit match how you already book.
Choose Venture X when you’ll use Capital One Travel for the $300 credit and the 10X and 5X portal rates, want Capital One Lounge and Landing access plus enrolled Priority Pass, and will use the 10,000 anniversary miles.
Transfers don’t settle it. Wells Fargo's Journey page doesn't list its transfer partners (its newsroom names several, including JetBlue, Wyndham and Cathay Pacific), and Venture X is worded only as 15+ travel loyalty programs, so neither card wins on a partner count or ratio from the card pages alone.
Not the no-fee Autograph. This is the Autograph Journey, and the two cards’ earn rates aren’t mixed here. Welcome offers are a dated side note below, not the verdict.
Fees, credits, and offers can change; check the official Wells Fargo and Capital One card pages before you apply.
