This is a pre-booking pass for Fine Hotels + Resorts and The Hotel Collection, written for a Platinum cardmember who may be choosing between the two programs. With Amex Fine Hotels + Resorts, a Platinum cardmember who books a new stay through American Express Travel at a participating property, pays with an eligible card or another American Express card in that cardmember’s name, and travels on the itinerary can receive a $100 credit toward eligible charges, daily breakfast for two, noon check-in when available, a room upgrade upon arrival when available, complimentary Wi-Fi, and guaranteed 4 PM check-out.

Benefits attach per room, per stay, and only if the booking follows the program rules. This is a checklist of those rules for Fine Hotels + Resorts and The Hotel Collection, in words only.

It covers which program to book, which cards qualify, how to book and pay, what to expect at the hotel, the per-stay limits, and what can void the benefits.

  • Pay Now the prepaid rule for the separate $600 Hotel Credit
  • Three rooms per stay limit
  • 24-hour back-to-back bookings count as one stay
  • Two nights+ The Hotel Collection requirement

Rules here follow the American Express program terms and travel pages as of October 3, 2026.

Our own free tracker, RewardTracker.io, lets you track two cards free; a one-time $10 unlock adds the rest of the catalog on that account.

At a Glance: Fine Hotels + Resorts and The Hotel Collection

  1. Fine Hotels + Resorts: new bookings through American Express Travel at participating properties. The program-benefits section doesn’t state a minimum consecutive-night stay.
  2. The Hotel Collection: a separate program, for new bookings of two consecutive nights or more through American Express Travel at participating properties. Offers vary by property.
  3. Benefit types: Fine Hotels + Resorts names a $100 credit toward eligible charges, daily breakfast for two, noon check-in when available, a room upgrade upon arrival when available, complimentary Wi-Fi, and guaranteed 4 PM check-out. The Hotel Collection names a $100 credit toward eligible charges, noon check-in when available, a room upgrade upon arrival when available, and 4 PM late check-out when available.
  4. Eligibility: differs by program and is wider than a single Platinum cardmember.
  5. Booking: program terms require an eligible-card payment path, the Eligible Card Member on the itinerary, and program-benefit charges billed to the room. The prepaid (Pay Now) rule is stated for the separate $600 Hotel Credit; the program terms don’t state a prepaid requirement for the program benefits.
  6. At the hotel: noon check-in and the room upgrade are subject to availability. Late check-out is guaranteed only on Fine Hotels + Resorts.
  7. Limits: benefits apply per room, per stay, with a three-room limit per stay, and back-to-back bookings within a 24-hour period count as one stay.
  8. What can void them: a cancelled account, a missing traveler, program-benefit charges not billed to the room, and, for the $600 Hotel Credit statement credits, a refunded, cancelled, or modified booking.

Benefits vary by property; confirm the program terms for your booking before you rely on this.

Real-World Examples

Rule scenario 1: a clean booking

A Platinum cardmember books a new stay through American Express Travel, pays with an eligible card or another American Express card in that cardmember’s name, and travels on the itinerary.

Takeaway: that’s the booking path the program terms describe.

Rule scenario 2: Pay Later or Pay at Hotel

A booking made as Pay Later or Pay at Hotel isn’t an eligible $600 Hotel Credit booking. Separately, the program terms also address paying for the booking at the property and say a physical American Express card may be needed.

Takeaway: keep the $600 Hotel Credit rule and the program payment rule apart.

Rule scenario 3: a card that isn’t eligible

A Companion Card Member on a Consumer Platinum account, or a Delta SkyMiles Platinum Card Member, isn’t eligible for Fine Hotels + Resorts.

Takeaway: check the card against that program’s own list.

Rule scenario 4: back-to-back stays

Back-to-back stays at the same property within a 24-hour period, including bookings by different Card Members in the same room or the same party, count as one stay and one set of benefits.

Takeaway: bookings that fall under this rule don’t stack.

Rule scenario 5: a refunded or modified booking

A refunded, cancelled, or modified booking may mean a $600 Hotel Credit statement credit isn’t received or is reversed. That risk is stated for the Hotel Credit, not as a void of the program benefits.

Takeaway: the two rule sets stay separate.

Rule scenario 6: a cancelled card account

The program terms say the Eligible Card Account must not be cancelled.

Takeaway: keep the account open through the stay.

The Hotel Collection program benefits are valid only for:

  • U.S. Consumer and Business Gold Card, Platinum Card Members

Program terms

  • To receive program benefits, the booking must be made and paid for using an Eligible Card or another American Express card in the Eligible Card Member’s name.
  • The Eligible Card Member must be traveling on the itinerary booked.
  • Charges for program benefits, if applicable, must be billed to the hotel room.
  • If you pay for the booking at the property, the Eligible Card Member may need to provide a physical American Express card. The Eligible Card Account must not be cancelled.
  • Amex’s FAQ says Fine Hotels + Resorts and The Hotel Collection rates typically include more flexible cancellation terms than some other sites, but the rate you book sets the actual cancellation policy, so read it before you pay.

The $600 Hotel Credit payment rule (kept separate)

  • The $600 Hotel Credit is a separate Platinum benefit: up to $300 in statement credits semi-annually, up to $600 per calendar year per Card Account, on eligible prepaid Fine Hotels + Resorts or The Hotel Collection bookings made through American Express Travel. The terms name U.S. Consumer Platinum and U.S. Business Platinum accounts, and Delta SkyMiles Platinum Card Members are not eligible. It is separate from the $100 credit that comes with each eligible booking. Basic Card Members receive the statement credits. On Consumer Platinum accounts, bookings by Additional Platinum Card Members count toward the same cap; on Business Platinum accounts, eligible Employee Cards count toward the same cap.
  • A prepaid booking means paid in full at booking, called Pay Now on AmexTravel.com, the Amex Travel App and the Amex App, as opposed to a deposit or payment at check-out. Eligible bookings do not include, for example, Pay Later or Pay at Hotel bookings.
  • The travel-benefits FAQ names AmexTravel.com or the number on the back of the eligible card as the ways to book for that credit; the credit’s terms also list the Amex Travel App and the Amex App. The programs page says bookings are made through American Express Travel.

Benefits vary by property; confirm the program terms for your booking before you rely on this.

At the Hotel: What the Property Applies and When

Traveler in profile at an empty rental-car counter in mid-afternoon
  • Benefits vary by property.
  • Noon check-in and the room upgrade are subject to availability. The Fine Hotels + Resorts terms add that they are provided at check-in. Certain room categories are not eligible for the room upgrade on either program.
  • Late check-out: guaranteed 4 PM check-out on Fine Hotels + Resorts per the program terms, and 4 PM late check-out when available on The Hotel Collection.
  • Room billing: charges for program benefits, if applicable, must be billed to the hotel room.
  • $100 credit: applied at checkout, in USD or the local currency equivalent, to eligible charges up to $100 that are billed to your room. Eligible charges vary by property (Amex’s examples include food and beverage and spa), advance reservations are recommended for certain credits, and benefits can’t be redeemed for cash.
  • No added charge: program benefits are not an additional charge on the booking.
  • Check-in: Amex says eligible Card Members get a welcome letter at check-in that explains where benefits like the $100 credit can be used. Card Members are entitled to the benefits the property offers on the booking check-in date.
  • Breakfast and Wi-Fi (Fine Hotels + Resorts): the terms value daily breakfast for two at the greater of $60 per room per day or twice the lowest-priced breakfast combination on the hotel’s menu, and you pay anything above that. If Wi-Fi is part of a mandatory property fee, a daily credit of that amount is applied at check-out.
  • No cash, no combining: benefits can’t be redeemed for cash, aren’t combinable with other offers unless indicated, and must be used during the stay booked.

Limits: Per Room, Per Stay, and Back-to-Back Stays

Traveler standing on a waterfront promenade looking over the water in late afternoon
  • Benefits are applied per room, per stay, with a three-room limit per stay.
  • Back-to-back stays booked by a single Card Member within a 24-hour period at the same property are considered one stay and are eligible for one set of benefits.
  • Bookings made by different Card Members staying in the same room, within a 24-hour period at the same property, are considered one stay.
  • Bookings made by different Card Members traveling in the same party, within a 24-hour period at the same property, are considered one stay.

Those bookings don’t stack into a second set of benefits.

What Can Void the Benefits

Program terms

  • The Eligible Card Account must not be cancelled.
  • The Eligible Card Member must be traveling on the itinerary booked.
  • Charges for program benefits, if applicable, must be billed to the hotel room.

The $600 Hotel Credit only

For the $600 Hotel Credit, a refunded, cancelled, or modified booking may mean the statement credit is not received or is reversed. Amex’s FAQ adds that some modifications require a booking to be cancelled and a new booking made.

Abuse language, quoted only

The Fine Hotels + Resorts terms say:

“American Express and the Property reserve the right to modify or revoke FHR benefits at any time without notice if we or they determine, in our or their sole discretion, that you may have engaged in abuse, misuse, or gaming in connection with your FHR benefits.”

The Hotel Collection terms say:

“American Express and the Property reserve the right to modify or revoke THC benefits at any time without notice if we or they determine, in our or their sole discretion, that you may have engaged in abuse, misuse, or gaming in connection with your THC benefits.”

TL;DR – Verdict

Fine Hotels + Resorts fits a new American Express Travel booking where you want the benefit list that includes daily breakfast for two, complimentary Wi-Fi, and guaranteed 4 PM check-out.

The Hotel Collection fits a stay of two consecutive nights or more, with a $100 credit toward eligible charges, noon check-in when available, a room upgrade when available, and 4 PM late check-out when available.

Match the card to the program. The two programs don’t share the same eligible-card list.

Pay and travel under the program terms, and treat Pay Now as the $600 Hotel Credit rule, not the same rule as paying at the property.

Expect availability limits at check-in, the $100 credit applied at checkout, and benefits applied per room, per stay (three-room limit), with back-to-back and same-party bookings inside 24 hours counted as one stay.

Benefits vary by property; confirm the program terms for your booking before you rely on this.

Frequently Asked Questions

What do you get with Amex Fine Hotels and Resorts?

A Platinum cardmember who books a new stay through American Express Travel at a participating property, pays with an eligible card or another American Express card in that cardmember’s name, and travels on the itinerary can receive a $100 credit toward eligible charges, daily breakfast for two, noon check-in when available, a room upgrade upon arrival when available, complimentary Wi-Fi, and guaranteed 4 PM check-out. Benefits attach per room, per stay, only if the booking follows the program rules. The $100 credit is applied at checkout, in USD or the local currency equivalent, and eligible charges vary by property.

How does The Hotel Collection differ?

It requires two consecutive nights or more and lists a $100 credit toward eligible charges, noon check-in when available, a room upgrade when available, and 4 PM late check-out when available. Daily breakfast for two and complimentary Wi-Fi are not listed on the pages read. Late check-out is when available, not guaranteed.

Do Pay Later or Pay at Hotel bookings get the $600 Hotel Credit?

The travel-benefits FAQ says eligible bookings do not include, for example, Pay Later or Pay at Hotel bookings. Program terms also address paying at the property, and a physical card may be needed. A prepaid booking means paid in full at booking, called Pay Now on AmexTravel.com, the Amex Travel App and the Amex App.

Do separate bookings at the same property stack?

Not when they fall under the 24-hour rule. The terms treat back-to-back stays booked by one Card Member, bookings by different Card Members staying in the same room, and bookings by different Card Members traveling in the same party, each within a 24-hour period at the same property, as one stay with one set of benefits. Separately, benefits are applied per room, per stay, with a three-room limit per stay. The terms don’t spell out how those two rules combine for a multi-room party, so confirm with Amex Travel before you count on a set of benefits per room.

Who else can book?

Eligibility is wider than Platinum and differs by program. Fine Hotels + Resorts names U.S. Consumer, Business and Corporate Platinum Card Members, Centurion Members, and Additional Platinum Card Members on Consumer and Business Platinum and Centurion Card Accounts, and excludes Companion Card Members, Additional Business Gold and Additional Business Expense Card Members, and Delta SkyMiles Platinum Card Members. The Hotel Collection names U.S. Consumer and Business Gold Card, Platinum Card Members, and Centurion Members, and Additional Card Members on Consumer and Business Platinum Card Accounts and on Consumer and Business Centurion Accounts, and excludes Delta SkyMiles Gold and Platinum Card Members.
